The trap

Users can build the equipment that helps in monitoring in their home. It is simple, easy to handle, cheap, and safe — it is a trap that attracts Aedes mosquitoes.

Aetrapp simulates an ideal environment for the laying of eggs of Aedes mosquitoes. Its construction is simple — it is made up of a plastic container filled with water, a substance that is attractive to mosquitoes and a semi-submerged palette of paper.  If eggs are found in the samples, it means that there are adult mosquitoes in the environment; the more eggs detected, the greater the local infestation. The use of Aetrapps is safe; users must just correctly follow the guidelines. Users interested in monitoring should build their traps and weekly take photographs of samples using the AeTrapp application installed on their smartphones.

AeTrapp Application

Through the AeTrapp application, which will be available on Google Play and Apple Store, users take pictures of samples generated by the traps.

The AeTrapp application, which will be available on Google Play and App Store, will allow users to register on the system, take pictures of the samples and send them to the server. It will also allow users to view on a map data generated by all citizens in different locations, checking the places where the infestation by Aedes mosquitoes is more critical.

Aetrapp.org Website

This photo sent by the application enables counting how many mosquito eggs are in that sample, providing a map that allows the comparison of the situation in different locations; it also detects population explosions of Aedes in real time .

The website will receive pictures sent by users and automatically count the number of eggs present in each sample. The results will be available in a map where both civil society and public health agents can view comparative data in real-time and historical series, supporting a more focused and effective action in sites that require urgent measures against mosquitoes.
